Shenandoah, IA Realtors | Shenandoah Homes for Sale - NP Dodge Real Estate.
Located approximately 60 miles southeast of Omaha/Council Bluffs is Shenandoah, IA—a self-sustaining city with a population of 4,800 people. It is home to a newly renovated downtown area, lined with clothing stores for all members of a family, a sporting goods store, gift shops and boutiques, as well as home décor shops. Larger chain stores can be found on the perimeter of the city. Restaurants are located in many areas of the city and range from fast food drive-ins, an old-fashioned soda fountain, cafes in a renovated church building, to the old train depot. Many are destination restaurants for people from surrounding communities and are noted for their food as well as their unique décor.
Shenandoah has an elementary school, middle school, and a high school. All contain up-to-date equipment and are newly built or newly remodeled. For continuing education there is a satellite campus for Iowa Western Community College. A well-used library and 21 churches are also found here.
Possibly because it is the city where Henry Field and Earl May started their retail/wholesale garden and seed companies, the city focuses on beautiful gardens in their five city parks. These are planted and maintained by the Shenandoah Home and Garden Club. The city is also home to the Bricker Botanical Garden with its changing displays each season. Beautiful landscaping and homes can be found in most residential areas, as well.
The Shenandoah Medical Center provides routine and specialty services at its full-service hospital, out- patient clinic, and wellness center, including treatment for cancer and kidney dialysis. Doctors from several clinics in Omaha travel to Shenandoah to diagnose and treat patients in a specialty clinic on a needed basis, allowing people to stay near their homes for most medical treatment.
Shenandoahans have fun too! They celebrate Independence Day with a big festival—including a parade, a terrific fire-works display, a flea market, car and tractor show, and lots of food. They host a “Shenfest” homecoming in September and then welcome the Christmas holidays with the “Night the Lights Come On” after Thanksgiving.
